Seed.Hope.Now : Art, volunteering and conservation in nature

Hadau.Gobaith.Nawr : Celf, gwirfoddoli a chadwraeth mewn natur

Our soil is full of seeds, some of which just need a chance to grow. Just enough light, rain, shade, temperature; and the wildflower seeds -some of which have been there for years- will spring up from where they are hiding. This project is about making room for nature, and making nature visible for all to see and share.

Mae ein pridd ni yn llawn o hadau, rhai ohonyn nhw angen siawns i dyfu. Jest digon o olau, glaw, cysgod, tymheredd; a bydd yr hadau blodau gwyllt sydd yn ein pridd- rhai ohonyn nhw wedi bod yna am achau hir, yn medru tyfu o’u cuddfannau. Mae’re prosiect yma amdan gwneud lle i natur, wneud natur yn weledol i bawb a gwerth ei rhannu.

Balsam is a plant that you will recognise: bright pink orchid-like flowers and exploding seed pods, squishy stalks and pointed leaves with pink veins and jagged edges.

But it’s spread too far! It is now classed as an ‘invasive species’, which means it is causing lots of problems in the wild by pushing out the wildflowers and insects that are special and unique to us here in Wales and the UK.

Mae Balsam yn blanhigyn byddech yn eu hadnabod: blodau llachar pinc a hadau sy’n ffrwydro, coesau sy’n popio a dail pigog gyda gwthiennau pinc ac ochrau danneddog.

Ond mae hi wedi lledaenu yn rhy bell! Mae hi nawr yn cael ei chlasuro fel ‘Rhywogaeth Ymosodol’, sy’n golygu bod hi’n gwneud sawl problem yn y gwyllt wrth iddi gwthio allan blodau gwyllt a phryfed sy’n arbennig i ni yng Nghymru a’r Deyrnas Unedig.

But you can help! Balsam doesn’t need lots of chemicals to get rid of it, you can simply pull up the roots and leave it to dry in a pile to kill it. Every time you bash or pull some Balsam is a win for nature, so please join in to protect the biodiversity of local nature spots.

Ond fedrwch chi helpu! Does dim angen cemegion cas i gael gwared ohono, gallech ei ladd yn syml wrth dynnu hi i fyny- gan gynnwys y gwreiddiau pwysig wrth gwrs- a’i adael iddi sychu mewn tomen. Pob tro rydych chi’n bashio neu’n tynnu Balsam mae natur yn ennill, felly ymunwch i fewn i warchod y bioamrywiaeth mewn ardaloedd natur lleol.

Become a Ponty Protector this summer at Shoni’s Pond and Barry Sidings in May/June 2023. Balsam bashing is a fun way to protect the valuable biodiversity of local habitats- check our events calendar for fun sessions that include Silent Disco in the half term holidays, willow sculptures, and celebrations during the week of Ponty Green Week

Community groups based in Pontypridd have been invited to create a willow sculpture with NATURponty artist Catrin Doyle.  The sculptures will be placed in areas of outstanding beauty- Shoni’s Pond and Barry Sidings, before being given a ‘What 3 Words’ location so the groups can seek them out. The sculptures will act as a practical space to ‘dry’ the Balsam inside after picking (or ‘bashing’!) so it can be safely eradicated, with a QR code to promote the importance of conservation on these sites in Pontypridd.

Dewch yn Gwlad- Garwyr yr haf yma ym Mhwll Shoni a Barry Sidings yn ystod Mai/Mehefin 2023. Mae pigo balsam yn ffordd hwyl i warchod bioamrywiaeth o’n cynefin lleol.  Chwiliwch yn ein calendr am fwy o ddigwyddiadau cyffrous : Disgo Tawel, sculpturau helyg a dathliadau Wythnos Werdd Pontypridd.

Cafodd grwpiau cymunedol ym Mhontypridd eu gwahodd i greu sgulptur helyg gydag artist NATURponty Catrin Doyle. Gosodir y sgulpturau mewn mannau hardd lleol- Pwll Shoni a Barry Sidings, cyn rhoddwyd lleoliad ‘What 3 Words’ iddyn nhw er mwyn i’r grwpiau dod o hyd iddyn nhw. Mae’r sgulpturau yn gweithredu fel man ymarferol i ‘sychu’r’ Balsam tu fewn ar ôl ei bigo, er mwyn ceisio ei gwaredu, gyda côd QR i godi ymwybyddiaeth cadwraeth ar y safleoedd pwysig yma ym Mhontypridd.
